Chef Menal

Eritrean Chef Menal Kidane believes that colors awaken the appetite, reminding us that food is both nourishment for the body and the soul. Despite a challenging journey to the United States, escaping violence and facing visa issues, Menal's culinary talents emerged after obtaining asylum seeker status. Her skills caught the attention of Tiyya Foundation’s founder, Meymuna, leading to her role as a chef at Flavors From Afar.

Menal's cuisine beautifully reflects her Eritrean heritage, characterized by vibrant colors and intricate spices. She adds her own twist to tradition with her unique interpretation of the classic Eritrean spice blend, berebere.
